ABOUT THE BASSOON
The Bassoon is the tenor member of the woodwind family. It is a large double-reed instrument (over eight feet long!)
with a lower range than that of the other woodwind instruments. The double reed consists of two single reeds tied together
that vibrate when air is forced between them. Appearing in its modern form in the 1800’s, the bassoon is a part of orchestral,
concert band, and chamber music literature. It is known for its distinctive tone color, wide range, variety of character, and agility.
Our intermediate bassoons are made of plastic with a full Heckel 22-key system. This construction method
produces a high quality of sound and playability, while maintaining the price of an intermediate level instrument.
Mechanical features include a high D, a plateau C on the third finger of the wing joint (D hole), F#/C# trill keys,
plus C# & D#/F and Ab rollers.
