ABOUT THE BARITONE
The Baritone Horn, or simply Baritone, is a member of the brass instrument family and it is used in marching bands, concert bands and symphony orchestras. Origins of the baritone horn can be traced to ancient Rome, where bronze and brass instruments called
"tubas" often played at military and ceremonial functions. The modern Baritone Horn, also known as a tenor tuba, first appeared in Germany in the 1830's.
The Baritone Horn is often confused with another brass instrument called the Euphonium but they are actually not the same instrument! Although the two horns do share features and characteristics, including the upright playing stance, flared upward-pointing bell, a nine-foot-long main tube and partials from the Bb harmonic series, the Baritone has a smaller and more cylindrical bore while the Euphonium has a larger and more conical bore. The Baritone Horn also has a tighter wrap and a far smaller bell, and is thus physically smaller and easier to hold and play.
Our Andreas Eastman Baritone Horns are in the key of Bb and have 3 top action valves with stainless steel pistons. The bell has a diameter of 8 3/8” and it is constructed from hand-spun yellow brass with a wire rim and torch annealed bell tail. The mouthpipe is constructed from rose brass. The bore size is .504” and it has a lever water key. Our Andreas Eastman Baritones set the standard for quality and tone and they are great for beginning students and beyond. This horn comes in a uniquely attractive canvas covered case with a mouthpiece and valve oil.
